Privacy Policy
Rendered from the shared legal content for Affirm.
Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 5, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Affirm ("Affirm," "we," "us," or "our") handles information when you use the Affirm mobile application, related widgets, reminders, optional account and cloud backup features, and optional Pro subscription features (collectively, the "App").
Affirm is designed to work on your device by default. You can use the core App without creating an account. If you choose to create an account and enable cloud backup, some of your content and preferences are stored on our servers so they can be backed up and synced across your devices, as described below. The App does not include advertising SDKs or third-party analytics SDKs.
1. Information We Collect
Information stored on your device
When you use the App, it may store the following information locally on your device:
- your onboarding selections and category preferences
- your saved affirmations, favorites, and custom affirmations
- optional voice notes you record in the App
- optional images you attach to custom affirmations
- reminder schedules and notification preferences
- mood check-ins and streak history
- theme selections and widget preferences
- read-aloud (text-to-speech) and focus-mode preferences
- a cached indication of whether Pro is active on your device
This information is stored using on-device databases, local files, and device preferences.
Account information
If you choose to create an account, you sign in using Sign in with Apple or Google Sign-In. We do not create or store a password for you. Depending on the provider and the choices you make at sign-in, we receive and store:
- a unique identifier for your account from the provider
- your email address (which may be a private relay address if you use Sign in with Apple)
- a display name, if provided
We also generate and store account and session records, including authentication tokens used to keep you signed in. Sign-in credentials for Apple or Google accounts are handled by those providers, not by us.
Cloud backup and sync content
If you sign in and enable cloud backup, the App uploads and stores the following on our servers so it can be backed up and synced across your devices:
- your saved affirmations, favorites, and custom affirmations
- reminder, notification, read-aloud, focus-mode, theme, and related preferences
- mood check-ins and streak history
- optional voice notes and images you attach to custom affirmations
Backup and sync are optional. If you do not create an account or do not enable backup, this content stays on your device and is not uploaded to our servers.
AI generation input
If you use the optional AI affirmation generator (a Pro feature), the text you enter describing your goal or situation — together with your faith preference and hidden-category settings, used to tailor the results — is sent to our servers and on to our AI provider to generate suggestions. We use this input only to produce your affirmations for that request; we do not use it to build an advertising profile. We keep a per-day count of your generations to enforce usage limits and detect abuse. Suggestions are saved to your library only if you choose to keep them.
Purchase and subscription information
If you purchase, restore, or manage an Affirm Pro subscription, purchase-related information is processed by third parties that support subscriptions and billing, including:
- RevenueCat
- Apple App Store
- Google Play
These providers may process transaction details, subscription status, app-user or device-related identifiers, and similar information needed to validate purchases, restore entitlements, prevent fraud, and keep your Pro access in sync. We do not receive your full payment card number.
Permissions and device access
Depending on the features you choose to use, the App may request access to:
- Microphone, so you can record optional voice notes for affirmations
- Photos or media library, so you can pick optional images for custom affirmations
- Notifications, so the App can schedule and deliver local reminders
- Widget-related platform storage, so the App can show selected affirmation content in supported home-screen widgets
Information you provide voluntarily
If you contact us through an app store listing, an in-app support form, or another support channel, we may receive the information you choose to include in your message.
2. How We Use Information
We use information handled by the App to:
- provide the App's core features
- save your preferences and custom content
- create reminders and keep widget content up to date
- save and play back optional voice notes and images
- create and secure your account and keep you signed in
- back up your content and sync it across your devices when you enable backup
- generate AI affirmation suggestions from the goal you describe, when you use that feature
- restore and manage Pro subscription access
- respond to support requests
- maintain app security, prevent abuse, and keep the Service reliable
Read-aloud (text-to-speech) uses your device's built-in voices to speak affirmation text on your device. Affirmation text used for read-aloud is not sent to our servers for that purpose.
3. How Information Is Shared
We do not sell your personal information.
By default, your custom affirmations, mood history, voice notes, images, and preferences are stored on your device. If you enable cloud backup, that content is also stored on our servers and with the storage providers we use to operate the backup service.
Information may be shared in limited situations:
- with Apple or Google when you sign in, to authenticate your account
- with our hosting and storage providers that operate our backend and object storage on our behalf, including a cloud object-storage provider used to store backed-up media and content
- with our AI provider (OpenRouter and the model providers it routes to) to generate affirmation suggestions from the input you provide, when you use the AI generator
- with RevenueCat, Apple, or Google when needed to process or restore subscriptions
- with other apps or services when you choose to share affirmation text or images using the App's sharing features
- when required by law, regulation, legal process, or to protect rights, safety, and security
The providers that operate our backend and storage act as our service providers and process backed-up content only to provide the backup and sync service to you.
4. Notifications, Widgets, and On-Device Visibility
If you enable notifications, reminder content may appear in device notifications according to your operating system settings.
If you enable widgets, selected affirmation content and related display preferences may be made available to the widget extension through platform-supported local storage. Widget content may be visible on your home screen or other device surfaces, depending on your device settings.
5. Data Storage and Security
Content you back up is stored in our backend database and in object storage operated by our storage provider. Data is transmitted between the App and our servers over encrypted connections (TLS). Uploads and downloads of media use time-limited, access-controlled links. Authentication tokens we store are kept in a hashed form where applicable, and the App stores your session tokens in your device's secure storage.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Data Retention and Deletion
- Content stored only on your device remains until you remove it, clear the App's data, or uninstall the App. When you delete a custom affirmation, the App removes the associated local audio recording and image file from device storage.
- If you enable cloud backup, backed-up content remains on our servers until you delete it, delete your account, or it is removed as part of our retention practices. When you delete synced content, we mark it for deletion and remove it from active storage across your synced devices.
- If you delete your account, we delete or de-identify the account information and backed-up content associated with it, except where we are required or permitted to retain certain records by law.
- Subscription and purchase records kept by RevenueCat, Apple, or Google are retained according to those providers' own policies.
To request account or data deletion, use the support contact listed on the relevant app store listing for Affirm, or delete your account from within the App where that option is available.
7. Your Choices
You can:
- use the App without creating an account
- choose whether to enable cloud backup and sync
- decline microphone, photo, or notification permissions, though related features may not work as intended
- delete custom affirmations, attached images, and voice notes from within the App
- sign out of your account, or request account and data deletion
- manage or cancel subscriptions through your Apple App Store or Google Play account settings
- uninstall the App to remove locally stored app data from your device, subject to your platform's backup, sync, or restore behavior
8. Third-Party Services
The App may rely on third-party services or platforms, including Apple (including Sign in with Apple), Google (including Google Sign-In), RevenueCat, the Apple App Store, Google Play, our hosting and object-storage providers, OpenRouter and the AI model providers it routes to (for the AI affirmation generator), and any destination app you choose through external links or sharing features. Their handling of information is governed by their own terms and privacy policies.
9. Children's Privacy
Affirm is not directed to children under 13, or under the minimum age required by applicable law in your jurisdiction. We do not knowingly collect children's personal information. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
10. International Processing
If you create an account or enable cloud backup, or if you use purchase-related features, your information may be processed and stored in countries other than your own, including by our hosting, storage, sign-in, and subscription providers. Any such processing is governed by those providers' policies and applicable law.
11. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we may update the effective date above and publish the revised version through the App, the relevant app store listing, or another appropriate channel.
12. Contact
For privacy-related questions or requests, including account or data deletion, please use the support contact listed on the relevant app store listing for Affirm.
